Hello! 

My name is Anil, and I was a staff member at Waya for two years. My time at Waya was such an instrumental experience for me, that I often think of my life as split into two parts: everything before and after Waya.

私の名前はアニルです。私は2年間Wayaのスタッフでした。Wayaでの私の時間は私にとって非常に重要な経験であり、私は時々、私の人生をWayaの前と後の2つのパートに分けて考えたりするほどです。

From the first time I walked in there as a solo traveler who was crossing Japan on foot, I instant sensed that there was a certain magic to the place. I only spent two nights there, but it left such an indelible impression on me that, after I made it to the other end of Japan 3 months later, I ended up asking to go back there and work as a helper for the remainder of my visa. 

Feeling such a strong connection to the place and the people there, I eventually caved in to what my instinct was telling me and signed on as a full time employee.

日本を徒歩で一人、旅していたときに、Wayaに宿泊をしました。wayaに初めて入った時から、その場所にはある種の魔法があることを直感的に感じました。
たった2泊しかしなかったのですが、その場所が私に残した印象は非常に強く、3か月後に日本列島の端まで行った後、ビザの有効期限が切れるまで再びヘルパーとして働きたいと伝えたぐらい印象に残っていました。

wayaの人々と場所との強い結びつきを感じ、最終的には自分の直感に従って正社員として働くことになりました。

So, what made Waya so special for me? Of course it always starts with the people. You will spend one night there and feel as if you’ve known everyone your entire life. I also wasn’t exaggerating when I said there is a magic to the place — just about every guest I had in my two years there said the same thing; somehow, even though it is their first time there, it feels like coming home. 

では、私にとってWayaの何が特別だったのか。
もちろん、最初に大切なのはそこにいる「人」です。wayaで一晩過ごすだけで、一緒に過ごす人のそれまでの人生や、昔から友達だったかのような」
私が「魔法のような場所」と言ったことも誇張ではありません。私が2年間そこで過ごした中で、wayaに泊まったゲストがほとんど同じことを言っていたのです。
初めてそこに行くにもかかわらず、なぜか自分の家に帰ってきたような感覚があるのです。

I discovered myself as an artist there (through the encouragement of my coworkers), learned two new languages there (shout out to all the amazing Korean guests — they are the best karaoke partners), and even met my wife there (duplicate results not guaranteed lol). 

私はそこで自分自身のアーティストとしての側面を発見し（一緒に働いたメンバーの励ましのおかげで）、新しい2つの言語を学びました（素晴らしい韓国のゲストに感謝します – 彼らは最高のカラオケパートナーです）。

そして、私はそこで私の妻に出会いました（同じ結果を保証はできません笑）

I often find myself missing Waya, and Sapporo in general, especially the food (best ramen AND sushi in Japan — believe me, I’ve tried it all). As you do with places you love and miss, I’ve frequently gone back to visit. Every time I’ve gone back, the world, Japan, Sapporo, and Waya itself have all gone through significant change. I’ve noticed that there is one thing that never changes though — that Waya magic that turns two night stays into two week stays, one time guests into people with a preferred bunk bed on their next visit, and travelers just passing through into family.

私はよくWayaや札幌を懐かしく思い出します。特に恋しくなるのが、「食べ物」です（日本で最高のラーメンと寿司 -たくさんの場所に行き、いろいろなラーメンを食べました笑）。

愛しい場所を思い出すように、私は札幌に戻ったことがあります。

戻ってきた時、世界、日本、札幌、そしてWaya自体が大きなな変化を遂げていることに気づきました。

しかし、一つ変わらないものがあることにも気づきました 。

それは、-Wayaの魔法です。

2泊だけの予定だったのが、2週間の滞在になり、また帰ってこれる家との出会いになり、通りすがりの旅人を家族のように変えるものです。

On my most recent visit, I sat in the bar area having a morning coffee, and watched as a guest approached the reception in his pajamas, saying “hey, I think I’ll extend for just one more night here, there is just something about this place.” I couldn’t help but smile, having heard that same sentiment hundreds of times before, and knowing that it’s almost never “just one more night.”

最近の札幌に帰った時、私は朝コーヒーを飲みながらバーのエリアに座っていました。

すると、あるゲストがパジャマ姿でレセプションに近づいて、

「この場所には何か特別なものがあるから、1泊延長しようと思うんだ」と言いました。

私は以前に何度も同じような言葉を聞いたことがあるので、つい笑ってしまいました。

そして、それが「ただ1泊だけ」にはならないことを知っているからです。

多くの人が、wayaの魔法に触れることを願っています。
